In the Fall of 2005, Mr. Herman presented at the LAWASIA Conference in Saigon, Vietnam.


Mr. Herman is a member of the National Advisory Committee to a research initiative entitled “Integration of New Immigrants in the Workplace,” which is sponsored by the Institute for Work and the Economy, Northern Illinois University, and funded by the Joyce Foundation.

Mr. Herman was one of the organizers of a 2004 joint venture between the American Jewish Committee, Cleveland Chapter, and Asian Indians for Better Government, entitled “The Spirit of Immigration: Economic Impact of Immigrants in NE Ohio.”

Mr. Herman was the Co-Chair of a major civic event entitled “From There to Here: New Immigrants Redefining Our Community,” presented by the Global Issues Resource Center of Cuyahoga Community College.

Mr. Herman was the keynote speaker at the 2003 Geauga County Bar Association Law Day, a presenter at the 2003 Justinian Forum, a presenter before the Cuyahoga County Bar Association’s “9/11 and Criminal Defense in 2004, ” and a presenter at the Cleveland Bar Association’s seminar on immigration in 2004.

Mr. Herman helped coordinate a 2004 Workshop entitled “Immigration in the U.S. – Exploring Racism and Models for Peace,” for the 12th Annual Models for Unity Conference, “Celebrating the Power of Change,” presented by Cleveland State University, Office of Minority Affairs.

Mr. Herman served as Master of Ceremonies for the 2003 Diversity Day Forum presented by Mayor Jane Campbell at the Cleveland City Club.

Richard is the co-founder of TiE-Ohio, a chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs Association based in Silicon Valley. www.ohio.tie.com

Mr. Herman is admitted to the Ohio Bar; the U.S. Federal District Court, Northern District of Ohio; the Sixth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers' Association.

Mr. Herman is married to Kimberly Chen, a physician born in Taiwan. They are raising their children, Nathan and Isabella, to be citizens of the world.
